Why I think we should all waste our votes

Four years ago, I published an article I titled “Why I think we should all vote for Buhari”.  On the article, I stated that while I was not 100 percent confident in a Buhari led administration, I thought we needed to try something different. I dare say that a Buhari led administration has left us all a lot to be desired.

I have come with the same message again but with a different execution plan: “The need to try something different” yet again. We need to keep trying something new, till something works.

The two front runners in this race are people who have led us before, and to be honest, the next 4 years doesn’t hold a lot of hope with any of them leading us. I hope to be shocked.

However, we have other runners in this race. People like Fela Durotoye, Omoyele Sowore, Kingsley Moghalu, anybody but the guys with the broom and the umbrella; anybody but the guys that want us to keep recycling them.  While I was disappointed in the inability of the new guys to come together to form a coalition, I still implore us to vote for them, anyone of them.

Even though it might not seem like any of them can win, we need to send a message that a change is around the corner. We need to waste our votes in the right places. We need to show the world that maybe in the next elections, four years from now, with a united front, we can shake things up.

We need to waste our votes to give us hope. Hope that maybe sometime soon, something will change.

We need to waste our votes tomorrow , so that there is hope that my children will only associate candles with a romantic dinner. As many of us that can vote tomorrow, waste your votes in the right places, waste your votes in the hopes of a better Nigeria.

We need to waste our votes, so that there is hope that my children will only associate candles with a romantic dinner.
